Gil Burns - Choreographer

Gil trained in dance, drama and choreography at the University of Derby and graduated in 2001 with a BA (hons) in Performing and Media Arts.

In 2010 she gained an MA in Choreography from Fontys Dansacademie, Netherlands.

She has worked in the community as a community dance artist and choreographer across the UK. Through this work Gil has been able to extensively research techniques and styles of working with non-trained dancers. This is a specialism that she is able to draw upon in all her work with the community, young performers and adults alike.

Gil has also worked as lecturer in community theatre/dance in Higher and Further Education, Resident Dance Artist at Blackfriars Arts Centre, Dance Development Artist for Cheshire Dance, and as a freelance choreographer and performer for many schools, dance companies and theatre companies.

Her work with Kei has seen her choreograph many full scale musical productions and smaller shows in venues around the country such as the Liverpool Empire, Grimsby Auditorium and Stamford Arts Centre. She specialises in parade and flashmob choreography and has choreographed annually for Handmade Parade's summer and lantern parades in Hebden Bridge and Todmorden as well as Manchester Day Parade for Walk the Plank for several years now.

In addition to this Gil is a circus tutor, performer and project co-ordinator for Skylight Circus Arts in Rochdale where she focuses on the company's work with older people as well as honing her own skills in aerial circus - specifically static trapeze. She has her own street theatre company Kerfuffle Street Theatre for which she co-directs and performs and she plays percussion and sings with local all female Ceilidh band The Beau Dillies.

As if all this wasn't enough, Gil is often to be found working hard on the silver screen and has appeared as a supporting artist in Emmerdale, BBC's Wanderlust, Netflix's Free Rein, ITV's Ackley Bridge and upcoming BBC drama World on Fire. She also managed to wangle an appearance in an upcoming Hollywood blockbuster - that's so new it's still under wraps! You can keep up to date with what she's up to on her website: www.gilburns.co.uk

Outside of all this Gil enjoys having a nice sit down with her two cats and going for long walks catching pokemon.
